Datawrapper

I chose the five countries with the largest number of nuclear reactors in the world because it is a perspective worth investigating in depth. The cylinders are larger because they are more visible that way.

Infogram

I have chosen to show the points in the line graph so that it is easier for the reader to get the exact number of nuclear reactors for each year. The dark red color is obvious but not harsh, which makes for a better reading experience

I chose the top 10 countries with the largest number of nuclear reactors in this world because I think it's an issue of concern.

Flourish

This time I tried the hollow points and the dashed background lines

same as the above exercise

  • Smartphone: How do the charts from the different tools appear on your smartphone? Are there any problems?
  • The charts run fine on my Android mobile phone without any problems.
  • Colours: How easy/difficult is it to change colours with the different tools?
  • Both Datawrapper and Infogram are good for changing the color of column and bar charts. But Flourish is not very user-friendly in changing chart colors.
  • Text/labels: How easy/difficult is it to work with text/labels in the different tools?
  • Datawrapper>Infogram>Flourish
  • Flexibility: How flexible are the tools? Can you make the changes you want to do?
  • Infogram can change the chart theme without re-uploading the data. But I don't quite know how to go back from the project page to the main login page to create another new project. The flexibility of the other two tools is acceptable.
  •  Accessibility: Which different options for accessibility do the tools have?
  • Imforgram can be shared to different social platforms

Conclusion

What are the main benefits of:

  • Datawrapper? It is easy to create various new charts without having to create an account. Although you need to click the next steps to upload data and preview charts, it is still designed to be relatively easy to understand. For me personally, a big plus is the Chinese language page that can be selected 🙂
  • Infogram? First of all, logging in to create a user is a bit tricky. Without the discount code that my teacher provided me, some functions may not work. The advantage is that there are many already-designed chart themes for users to choose from.
  • Flourish? The options for setting up the chart are detailed. The size is basically already set automatically, so you don't need to adjust it yourself many times.

Which one of the tools do YOU prefer, so far? Datawrapper for sure.

Everything is great to show on my Android mobile phone. I can see the tooltips. There is not anything I have to change. This geovisualization and maps exercise inspired me a lot on how to show the data on an appropriate way.
