Description: Strongly contrasting colour, clearly annotated so it's apparent what this line chart is about. I also included the fetched date in case that can lend a feeling of relevancy to it.

Description: In the heading subtitle I explain that this is just a selection. I chose the totals to be visible at the top of every column because I think that helps the experience of understanding. I chose red for contrast. I started the columns with the smallest working up to the largest. I again included the date the data was fetched.

2a (a)

Description: Labelled the x and y axis and generally tried to make it as clear as possible.

2a (b)

Description: Used a series of blues, greys and greens to distinguish the countries but show that it's about the same thing. Labelled x and y axis.

2b (a)

Description: Went for a bold blue and labelled as well as I could.

2b (b)

Description: When you hover over the columns, you clearly see that it is the number of reactors by country.

Comparison

Smartphone: How do the charts from the different tools appear on your smartphone? Are there any problems? The experience on the phone is not as good but perhaps the Flourish charts look the most optimal. Hovering is not possible on the phone so you must click instead which is not ideal.

Colours: How easy/difficult is it to change colours with the different tools? Flourish I found most tricky I think or perhaps just least intuitive.

Text/labels: How easy/difficult is it to work with text/labels in the different tools? Fine for all.

Flexibility: How flexible are the tools? Can you make the changes you want to do? Flourish seemed to have the most options but it also felt the most complex.

Accessibility: Which different options for accessibility do the tools have? All have screen reader options. I like the fact that with Datawrapper one can see how the charts look for people with colour blindness.

Conclusion

What are the main benefits of:

Datawrapper? Fast and easy, good with how easy it is to check for colour blind experience.

Infogram? Straightforward

Flourish? Perhaps this as the most options but I didn't always speedily find what I was after.

Which one of the tools do YOU prefer, so far? Hard to say exactly.

The phone experience is quite okay. The visualisations are still clear and easy to engage with. When I came up against something that wasn't particularly intuitive I just played around and found a solution. I definitely could have improved my work with some more time becoming familiar with these tools.
